At the end of the university year Cardiff Met Sport comes together to celebrate the achievements of all sports within the University. This year Cardiff Met boasted over 1200 SU members, 4 semi finalists, 1 BUCS Championship winner, 1 BUCS Conference winner, 8 BUCS league champions, 17 individual medalists as well as having representation at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
In comparison to last year, were the team won administrator of the year as well as coach of the year, the swi team had a quiet night. This was expected, with the mens football being BUCS champions and narrowly missing out on European football with other teams performing well during the academic year. The swim team did get a few nominations with Breaststrokers Donovan McAntagart and Joe Parkers as well as Coach Seth Davies for Services for Cardiff Met Sport.
It was also a great opportunity to listen to the new Vice Chancellor who attended the awards night and presented a few awards. Within her speech the Vice Chancellor spoke passionately about performance sport and looking to increase sport scholarship within the university while also looking to improve the sporting facilities on offer. With this positive message we will wait to see how this positively effects sport at Cardiff Met in the next few years.
